Hi! I’m Amy Schamberg

school psychologist & certified Health Coach

It’s so nice to meet you!

I’m Amy- wife, boy mom, outdoor enthusiast, and self-proclaimed “health nut”. I’ve been gluten-free for 13 years, love hot yoga and true crime, and I look forward to spending time with my family on new adventures from city to sea.

But life wasn’t always so sunny…

Like many high-performing women, I began struggling with the stress of people-pleasing and perfectionism at a young age. I was held to high expectations by my parents and believed that my value was directly related to how hard I worked and how much success I achieved. I experienced some challenging relationships and learned to ignore my feelings, always putting the needs of others before my own.

Those difficulties from my past stuck with me in one way or another into my adult years and are what first led me to the helping professions.

I have always been fascinated by human development, health, psychology, and behavior, and in 2011, I earned my graduate degree in School Psychology through the University of Colorado. For well over a decade, I had the pleasure of working as a school psychologist in the Denver metro area, supporting neurodivergent young people with a variety of social, emotional, and mental health needs.

My Journey to Holistic Wellness: From Struggles to Empowerment

My passion for holistic wellness began when I first had to take my health challenges into my own hands

As I mentioned, I struggled with difficult relationships and the pressures of high achievement from a young age. Along with those challenges, I also suffered from painful gut issues and anxiety.  It seemed like everything I ate hurt my stomach, and the constant fear of food exacerbated my anxiety symptoms.

I tried everything I could think of to get better. I tried diets, detoxes, and cleanses. I even became a vegan for a decade! I met with doctors, therapists, and GI specialists. I moved away from a toxic environment and avoided my triggers. I tried some unhelpful meds and sometimes self-medicated. It was a super frustrating, unhelpful cycle.

AND NOTHING WORKED...

THEN FINALLY, ONE DAY, I HAD ENOUGH!

I TOOK MATTERS INTO MY OWN HANDS AND BEGAN TO RESEARCH WITH FERVOR.

I remember when I first delved into the world of functional medicine and finally began to understand the root causes of my lifelong gut problems and chronic anxiety. It was so empowering to learn that I could make simple changes to my diet, my lifestyle, and my mindset to greatly improve my quality of life. It was so validating to finally understand the origin- and the consequences- of the unrelenting pressure I put on myself to achieve.

I went from being confused and overwhelmed to confident in knowing exactly what to do to feel my best. I was amazed to discover that changing my diet improved my gut health AND my mental health. I learned how to keep my stress and anxiety in check by identifying and challenging my negative thought patterns, setting boundaries, and practicing self-acceptance. The benefits kept stacking up as I continued implementing holistic approaches to support my body and mind. .

My accomplishments

That’s when I knew I had to find a way to share this incredible information with as many people as possible.

2021: Graduated from the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy’s rigorous training program and became a Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach.

2022: Launched my private coaching practice, began coaching for an amazing company called Headspace Health, and became a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach

2023: Began providing resilience workshops for overcoming burnout and compassion fatigue for people in helping professions and caregiving roles.

My passion and my purpose are to guide, inspire, and empower you to take action and become the person you are meant to be.

Since officially pivoting into the health and wellness space, I have helped hundreds of people get unstuck, implement positive coping strategies, shift their mindset, and learn new healthy habits to overcome stress, anxiety, people-pleasing, and more.

After recovering from my own burnout episodes, I’ve become even more passionate about helping my clients build resilience and develop the confidence to prioritize themselves. And I'd love to help you, too.

Why Functional Medicine?

Western medicine is incredibly important, don’t get me wrong. From emergency care and surgical expertise, to infectious disease control and so much more, conventional Western medicine saves lives. I’m a firm believer in scientifically-based medicine and traditional psychology. But medicine in the United States is also big business. That means the research tends to follow the money when it should be the other way around!

This has left gaps in the standard of care… Some of them are pretty big ones. While conventional medicine does an awesome job of responding to advanced disease, it doesn’t always do a very good job of preventing it.

And we don’t talk often enough or seriously enough about the systems we live within. As a culture, we don’t acknowledge the impacts of our food systems or the way “busyness” has been sold to us as the thing we should all strive for. Productivity, side hustles, fad diets, caffeine to wake us up, and alcohol to wind us down…  Yikes. Talk about a recipe for disaster (and anxiety).

We’re not giving our bodies the chance to work the way they can and should. Functional medicine exists to fill that gap. It uses evidence-based strategies to bring the focus back to the overall, holistic wellness of the body we spend every single day in. Because treating that body well will give us the foundation we need to do whatever else it is we want to do with our time. And as a psychologist and functional medicine health coach, it’s my job to help you get there.

Coaching puts you in the driver’s seat.

Whereas traditional therapy is heavily focused on processing past traumas or managing diagnoses, coaching is an action-based, goal-oriented approach that looks at the present and the future.

Through coaching, I’ll help you sort out the challenges of the here and now—identify your ideal future, get clear on your goals, and develop a success plan to make it happen. We’ll work in partnership to determine what it might look like for you to function optimally, and we’ll take steps to get you feeling healthier, happier, and more capable.

You’ll be better able to connect the dots between who you are and who you know you can be.

Coaching Traditional Therapy
Goal: Identify the desired outcome for lifelong stress management; learn and practice holistic strategies to protect against the negative effects of daily stress so you can be more present, grounded, and resilient. Stress Goal: Uncover the root of PTSD symptoms and process unresolved past/childhood traumas; better understand how certain thoughts about your trauma cause you stress and make symptoms worse.
Goal: Identify automatic negative thoughts and follow a holistic action plan to create new, healthy thinking patterns and reduce symptoms of anxiety, build self-confidence, and improve relationships. Anxiety Goal: Reduce overall frequency, intensity, and duration of anxiety so that daily functioning is not impaired.
Goal: Identify triggers and follow a holistic action plan to reduce symptoms of depression and increase self-esteem; create sustainable lifestyle habits to maintain health and happiness. Depression Goal: Stabilize mood and return to a normal level of functioning.

The Values I Stand For.

Because I know that what we do every day determines the positive impact we can make on people’s health and wellbeing.

I am honest, transparent, reliable, and trustworthy. This is important for building relationships with clients, employees, contractors, and other stakeholders. In turn, I expect the people I interact with in my business to take responsibility, maintain accountability, and be honest and trustworthy.

Compassion

I am building a heart-centered business and there cannot be true connection without compassion. When working with clients, I suspend judgment and provide unconditional positive regard.

I believe in science, and all of the methods, techniques, and resources provided through my business are evidence-based.

Diversity / Equity / Inclusion

I believe that everyone should be treated with dignity and respect, and that differences should be celebrated. It is important to me, within my business and my life, to cultivate a compassionate culture where everyone feels safe, welcomed, and has a sense of belonging.
